Lately, I have been absolutely obsessed with remixes. I just love a new spin on an old tune. As I was listening to my many remixes of "Sail" I started to think about how I could apply remixes to more than just the songs on my iPhone. I have opportunities everyday to change how my day starts and ends. Just a few months ago I was unhappy with my job but I decided that, really, I was the only one in charge of how I let my day go. No amount of angry bosses, spilled coffee or missed buses can really affect you unless you let them. I had a mantra for a few weeks when my job was at its worst, "I am a brick wall. No one can break me". I would escape into the bathroom, look in the mirror and point at myself, "You are a brick wall, Jessica". However, mantras can only work so long until your Occlumency shields break down and your left without your wand. To get past this I began to imagine a safe place in my mind I could keep myself when times got hard. My little cottage in a valley where I am always surrounded by bright colors, flowers and the smell of Starbucks. We all need a place we can escape to. Life is too hard; regardless of pep talks, self-help books or mantras. Once you find that place within you where your can find your ground then nothing can stop you.
I am reminded lately of wise words said my Eleanor Roosevelt, "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent". You are in control of how things and people affect you. You can continue living each day the same as the last or you can take control, find your ground and change how you approach your everyday. Try to remix your life and see if you can make something beautiful and bright. I did and now I look at everyday as a new, bright and wonderful day.
